Here is another letter from Levi to Charlotte Elliott. He talks of taking the time to answer letters but tells her to write whenever she wants to. He mentions Aunt Lucy Smith. She was Benjamin Elliott’s grandmother, John Elliott’s mother. She past away in December 1889, shortly after this letter was written. And once again Levi refers to his “wife”, even though he never married.

Minneapolis November 17, 1889

Dear Madam;
Your letter of September 10th came in due time, and when I started to write this a few moments ago, I thought it was about two weeks since I received yours, but an examination shows that you wrote it September 10th and that I received it Sept 14, 1889 which was nine weeks ago yesterday. Time flies so fast I can’t keep run of it. I cannot, frequently, get time to answer letters for sometime after they are received but that need make no difference with you, when you wish to write to me, because I am always pleased to receive letters from you, I can always get time to read letters within a short time after they are received, & that part always pleases me much more than answering them.
I am very sorry to hear that Aunt Lucy Smith has had a stroke of paralysis. She has been a remarkably smart women in her day and has done a great deal of hard work & suffered much. But she has appeared to take her misfortunes quite philosophically, and to have had a good home at her Daughters. I am pleased to hear that you & your family are so well and Enjoying life so well. I have not seen Benny for some time now. I suppose it must be about time for him to be around again.
I have no idea when I may go down East again. My wife keeps one so busy about home I do not get time to go away. Please give my best wishes to all & accept the same yourself.
